Acctivate is a club on Saturday mornings for autistic children aged 5-12. Current activities include computers, board games, lego, art, outdoor fun, a sensory room, and much more!
Sessions are held in the Pavilion and Garden Rooms at St Mary’s Church and Community Centre, Bramall Lane from 9.45am – 12.15pm on Saturday mornings.
Children aged five and over are welcome to stay without their parents or carers after ACCT staff have registered their details and support needs.
Parents are not currently able to stay due to Covid-19 restrictions, and we are not currently able to offer a parent carer room as we have in the past. Hopefully the easing of restrictions will allow us to reinstate these things. Similarly, the restricted capacity of our sessions due to Covid means we are less able to accommodate siblings as we have done in the past.
Sessions are run in two ‘bubbles’, each staffed by ACCT Playworkers and supported by ACCT volunteers. Up to 30 children can attend each session. We have a waiting list should the clubs be full so you can text or call on the day of the club to check availability.
Sessions run every Saturday of the year from 9.45am to 12.15pm apart from two weeks over Christmas. If, for unforeseen circumstances, a session has to be cancelled then members will be notified.
Info for new members accessing a place at Acctivate:
Teenage Club and Acctivate are commissioned by Sheffield City Council as a ‘Short Breaks’ clubs. This means that you have to be referred to ACCT by Sheffield City Council before you can start attending these sessions.
To be referred, you should request an application form by contacting the SNIPS Team at Sheffield City Council on 0114 2735368 or email SNIPSBusinessSupport@sheffield.gov.uk. Once the referral form has been received a member of the SNIPS team will contact you.
We have been advised that applications for referral will be processed by the local authority within 35 days. Please do let us know if you have any questions about this.
Note: Families can only access one Sheffield City Council short break service, so if you access another short break, you would have to transfer from this provider to ACCT. Similarly, if you have accessed the Short Break Grant this year, you may have to wait until you can be referred to ACCT.
Info for existing members on how to book:
Once you have received an Acctivate place, you will receive a reminder by email or text each week to ask if you want to book at place at the next session for your young person. Pre-booking is essential as places are limited. Contact Nicola on 07527 824034 or email email@example.com to book. A waiting list is operational should the club be full.
Covid update – February 2021.
Acctivate is currently open.
Following the release of the Government’s guidance on Protective measures for out-of-school settings during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Acctivate has reopened. We have made a number of changes to ACCT Clubs in response to Covid-19. To protect our community, everyone attending ACCT clubs must maintain good hygiene, hand washing and social distancing.
Please note that our clubs may be changed regularly in line with Government guidance changes as we progress through this pandemic. We recommend that parents and carers keep up-to-date with the latest Government guidance. Parents have a responsibility to make sure they and their children know what to expect when attending ACCT Clubs, and understand the importance of good hygiene, hand washing and social distancing.
We will also continue to have activities available online – weekly Acctivate and Teenage Club Minecraft, weekly Dungeons and Dragons via Zoom and fortnightly Parents’ Meetings via Zoom.
Please get in touch if you are interested in attending any of these sessions.
We are aware that lots of our families are already isolated and self isolating is going to extend that further, along with the increased anxiety that many of us are feeling. We are asking all of you to please reach out to us if you need support and we will do all that we can to help.
